Create a Report

Build board reports with dashboards, assign owners, and manage the review-to-publish workflow.

Board reports in I'mBoard are structured around dashboards — each covering a functional area like Sales, Finance, or HR. Dashboard owners prepare their sections, then the report goes through review and publication.

Create a Report

  1. Go to Reports in the sidebar
  2. Click New Report
  3. Fill in the details:
    • Report name (required) — e.g., "Q2 2026 Board Report"
    • Time period (optional) — Start and end dates
    • Linked meetings (optional) — Associate with a board meeting

Add Dashboards

Each report is made up of dashboards. Default dashboards are created automatically based on your board's configuration, but you can customize:

  1. Open the report
  2. Click Add Dashboard to create a new section
  3. Set the dashboard type — Sales, Finance/Cash, HR, Product, Pipeline, Fundraising, or Custom
  4. Assign a dashboard owner — The person responsible for preparing this section (e.g., CFO for Finance)
  5. Reorder dashboards by dragging them into the right sequence

Tip

Set default deck owners in your board settings so they're automatically assigned to new reports.

Dashboard Workflow

Each dashboard goes through its own review cycle:

  1. Working — Owner is preparing the content
  2. Ready for Review — Owner marks it as ready
  3. Changes Requested — Reviewer asks for edits
  4. Internally Reviewed — Approved by the internal team

Dashboard owners and authorized users can edit content — metrics, narrative sections, and data — directly in the dashboard editor.

Internal Review

Before publishing to the board, use the internal review process:

  • Each dashboard has an internal review chat for discussions
  • Deck owners and authorized users can comment and request changes
  • All discussions are tracked with full audit trail

Publish the Report

Once all dashboards are reviewed:

  1. The report moves from Draft to Published for Feedback
  2. Board members can now view the report and leave feedback
  3. After collecting feedback, finalize the report to lock it as the official record

Board Member Feedback

After publication, board members can provide feedback:

  • Feedback can be private (only visible to the member and deck owners) or board-visible (shared with all members)
  • Feedback is preserved even after finalization for future reference

Export to PDF

Reports can be exported as professional PDFs for offline viewing, archival, or sharing with external parties. The PDF includes a cover page, table of contents, and all dashboard content.
